House Beautiful has highlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also described in the report as an “illusion” bed, as an option for creating a guest bed without leaving a mattress set up full time. The reported $1,099.99 model includes a queen-size tri-fold foam mattress, pull-out side tables and cabinet storage; current availability and any discount were not confirmed in the supplied report.
House Beautiful has spotlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed as a space-saving option for households preparing to host overnight guests. The shopping report lists the cabinet-style bed at $1,099.99 and says it comes with a queen-size foam mattress, pull-out side tables and storage for use when the bed is closed.
The report describes the Borealis as a Murphy bed that folds into a credenza-style cabinet, rather than an exposed bed that occupies a room when not in use. Its wood construction has a laminate or melamine finish, according to House Beautiful, and the cabinet is designed to provide storage. The article suggests that the closed unit can serve as a surface for items such as a lamp or vase, though that is editorial styling advice rather than a product specification.
The included mattress is a 60-by-80-inch, six-inch-thick tri-fold foam mattress, matching queen dimensions, the report says. House Beautiful describes it as medium-firm, hypoallergenic and latex-free, with a cover made from 100% polyester. The article advises allowing the mattress 48 hours to expand after setup. The report also lists leg levelers for uneven floors and pull-out side tables for bedside items.
House Beautiful gives the price as $1,099.99 and characterizes the bed as discounted by 11% in the article’s shopping copy. The supplied material does not state the original comparison price, the date the price was checked or whether the discount remains active. It says Costco products can be difficult to find at nearby stores and points readers toward similar styles sold on Amazon, but does not provide confirmed stock details for the Borealis itself.
A Guest Bed That Folds Away
The bed addresses a practical space problem: a spare room, basement or multipurpose room can host visitors without keeping a conventional bed permanently open. A cabinet-style design may appeal to households that want sleeping space available on demand while preserving floor area and a more ordinary appearance the rest of the time. That benefit depends on the room having enough clearance to open and use the bed safely and comfortably.
The listed price includes the mattress, which makes direct comparisons with Murphy-bed cabinets sold without mattresses incomplete. Buyers would still need to account for delivery, assembly, room dimensions and any additional costs before deciding whether the unit suits their home. The report does not provide independent testing of sleep comfort, durability or installation requirements, so its product descriptions should be treated as information from a shopping article, not a comparative review.

Costco’s Cabinet-Style Bed
The House Beautiful article frames the bed as a purchase to consider ahead of holiday hosting season, for people who have occasional overnight visitors. It notes that Murphy beds are also sold through retailers including Wayfair and Amazon. Its central distinction for this Costco model is the credenza-like closed form and the inclusion of a mattress and side tables.
The source is a retail-focused report, not an announcement from Costco. The supplied material does not include a statement from the retailer, a product page link, a publication date beyond the 2026 article reference, or confirmation that the model is newly launched. The headline’s “illusion” phrasing is a descriptive label; the product is identified in the article as the Borealis Murphy Bed.
““One of the latest models we’re loving is Costco’s ‘illusion’ bed, also known as the Borealis Murphy Bed.””

Stock, Discount and Setup Details
Current availability is not established by the supplied source. It does not confirm whether the Borealis is in stock online or at any particular Costco warehouse, whether the $1,099.99 price is still current, or what price the reported 11% discount is measured against. Delivery coverage, shipping fees, assembly options and return terms are also not stated.
The report gives product features but does not provide a full size specification for the closed cabinet, required clearance, weight limits, installation instructions or details about anchoring. Those points matter when checking whether the unit fits a room and can be used as intended. Buyers should consult Costco’s current product listing or customer service for verified specifications and terms before purchasing.

Check the Current Costco Listing
For shoppers interested in the bed, the next step is to check Costco’s live listing or contact a local warehouse for current price, stock and delivery information. They should confirm the cabinet’s dimensions, mattress details, assembly requirements and return policy, then measure the intended room and the space needed to open the bed.
House Beautiful’s report does not announce a future product event or give a timetable for additional updates. Any change in price or availability would need confirmation from Costco; the 11% discount mentioned in the article should not be assumed to remain in effect.
